I appreciate this provider’s approach to male fertility conversations with her patient. She seems to follow his lead and also utilize his identified goals and values to provide information on options for fertility preservation. This rapport building during a conversation can be very important as some patients will not be as forthcoming if they don’t feel comfortable with the provider. Additionally, she exudes confidence and has a wealth of knowledge that is clearly articulated to the patient which is another strength of her approach. I believe factors to consider are cultural values, a patient’s goals and values, rapport with provider, perceived knowledge, and maturity of the patient.
