Hi – I was wondering if anyone could recommend a brief psychotherapy based protocol for sexual functioning concerns among male Oncology patients (current or post-treatment)?

    Thank you!

    Hi Sarah,

That’s a great question! We aren’t aware of many brief evidence-based intervention protocols, but there is a sexual recovery program that was based on a large multi-site trial that was completed recently. The study was completed with funding from the Movember Foundation, a leading global organization committed to supporting men with prostate cancer and their loved ones in survivorship. Because treatment-related sexual dysfunction is usually multi-factorial and every patient has their own particular  challenges (relationship factors, prior history, differences in treatment) there really is not a quick and easy way to have a one-stop shop kind of protocol. Also sexual dysfunction is broad umbrella term for various problems that need to be addressed differently (e.g., erectile dysfunction versus low desire).

If you or anyone is interested in learning more about the multi-site trial, please email us at ECHO@moffitt.org and we can forward you a copy of the handout that has more information.

    I hope this helps!
