Considering that the experience of discussing fertility preservation may be one of the first experiences for an AYA patient to receive accurate, comprehensive information and sexuality and sexual health, I think that some discussion about sexual consent would be important to incorporate. Young people with health concerns could find themselves in sexual encounters where, if there are body image and/or self-esteem concerns, they may feel pressured to engage in sexual activity to reinforce receiving sexual attention from another person. Discussion about consent, their rights to what happens to their bodies, and how to seek help if they find themselves in an abusive situation would be appropriate.
