I feel like this video of an encounter glossing over sexual concerns is awkward and almost difficult to watch.  As a PA, I don’t want to down play how difficult sexual health conversations can be but they are critical in offering comprehensive and complete care to our patients.  Even though it may feel awkward to us, I believe patients look to their providers for this guidance, reassurance, acceptance and level of maturity and comfort with the topic.  If the provider is uncomfortable the patient will also be uncomfortable.  Continuing to educate oneself and breakdown barriers and “practice” these convos is critical.

I absolutely agree. I find it difficult to have these conversations, but I have found ways of trying to become more comfortable. I have asked to role play with colleagues and have taken more trainings (like this one) because it is crucial for us to be comfortable in these conversations. I now try to encourage more people to do the same and I hope this continues to be talked about and trained more openly.
