Watching this social worker talk with the patient was very pleasant. I was happy to see the social worker truly listen to the patient’s concern about not having previously been talked to about fertility preservation. The social worker was incredibly sympathetic and didn’t overwhelm the patient with a lot of information all at once. The social worker gave the patient options so he could choose what he wanted to go more in depth in their discussion. Overall, I would like to talk to my patients in a similar way as she did.
I love this video! I do think that healthcare workers struggle with what to say, how to say it, when to not say anything and just listen. This video was helpful to me giving the script “whew, I don’t know what to say right now but I’m just really glad you told me”. In our relationships outside of work, this can go so far. The other, the “at least…”, could be more applicable to the workplace and what NOT to say. Thanks for sharing this – I loved it!
