This has been mentioned before in previous posts, but if I did not have an in depth knowledge in regards to the egg retrieval process and was put in a position to answer questions about this procedure for a patient I would only answer questions that I felt comfortable answering.  It would then be my role to refer the patient to a provider with more clinical experience in this area to help answer the patient’s questions.  I think I would be able to provide a basic overview of the process in that the patient’s ovaries will be stimulated using medications to produce multiple eggs that can be retrieved by a quick surgical procedure.  The eggs can then be either frozen as eggs or fertilized and frozen as embryos.

I agree, and I would add that the oncology physicians in my organization do not make this a priority.  My current knowledge has been supplemented by my daughter’s recent experience with egg retrieval.
